The E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of “Diamondback” Dalton Allen as Interim Director, effective immediately. Dalton, a lifelong outdoorsman, found a natural fit volunteering for the Biophilia Center after college. He was hired as an Environmental Educator and Wildlife Biologist in 2009 and has been serving as the Assistant Director since 2018.
Dalton will be replacing longtime Biophilia Center Director “Pinetree” Paul Arthur, who is stepping down after many years of leadership. Paul saw the Biophilia Center through periods of both growth and uncertainty. Under Paul’s leadership, the Biophilia membership program was launched, which continues to grow each year. Paul oversaw the construction of Camp Longleaf, an overnight campground facility, as well as the Terrace in the Trees, an outdoor event space. During the pandemic, Paul adapted the Biophilia curriculum for Zoom meetings to ensure our mission was being fulfilled and our children educated. He has rescued and cared for countless animals and lit up the faces of thousands of schoolchildren with his big personality and energy to match. The Board of Directors extends a big thank you to “Pinetree” Paul for his spirit and enthusiasm over the last decade.
Dalton Allen says, "Pinetree Paul has been a member of the Biophilia team for the last twelve years, including nine remarkable years as Director. He has led with an enthusiasm for the mission of the center in a way that has impacted every student, employee, member and guest that has seen him in action. His passion and accomplishments over the years will not be forgotten as we head into this new chapter. Although I have big shoes to fill, my love for the Biophilia Center and desire to see it thrive mean I am honored for the opportunity to continue that mission. I am excited to see what the future holds."
